A gift of native plants is one that may delight the recipient and make the world a better place at the same time. Here are a few gifts most gardeners I know would love to open. Do you have favorite gardening gift ideas? Please do share them!
Packets of Locally Harvested Seeds
Bona Terra's seed catalogue features some favorite native perennials for late summer and fall, like black eyed susan (Rudbeckia), blue mist flower (Conoclinium coelestinum) and boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum) as well as a host of others including some that are less well known. Imagine surprising your gardener with a new type of native plant! You can shop the seed sales catalogue here. Please note seed sales are processed the first and third week of the month.

Day Trip: Destination Native Plants!
Come spring, your gardener may delight in a trip you plan to see some of the local native plant sites. You might plan to include a couple of stops and a lunch or dinner out. Here are possible itineraries for Washington D.C., suburban Philadelphia, and the Eastern Shore.
All Things Botanical
Laurens Garden Service, the Ellicott City based nursery, gift store "Cultivate" and landscape design firm, offers on-line and in-store shopping. Cultivate curates an array of botanical items, many locally made.
Online Classes for Avid Gardeners
Mt. Cuba Center has a great array of classes on-line. Two new offerings caught my eye: The Cultivar Conundrum and Vernonia for Every Garden. These two are probably best suited for gardeners that fall into the nuts for natives category. For those a bit less nutsy, classes like the Botany of Design might be a good choice. You can view the online class list here.
There are ten additional gift ideas here from an earlier post. Give one of these to your gardener and you'll be met with immense gratitude!
Happy Gardening.
